How do you prove a strong suspicion, for which you have no evidence? You don't.What do you do if you are given an explanation that feels very much like a blatant lie? Or is plain ridiculous? It depends on the circumstances, but I can well understand why so many people adopt a cynical outlook.
One principle you have to follow, if you wish to survive, is not to rock the boat too much, as you would well risk falling overboard.
